Purpose 2 Passion...
|
While some of the darkest issues are easily identifiable in our communities, often times there is equal need among the very middle to upper class-recreation-enthusiast, as there is among those most visibly hurting.
•Braking Cycles’ strategic design is to tap into a culture that often times is far removed from the hurting of our city, and offer them an opportunity to participate in bringing “purpose to passion”. •Within our very DNA, God has planted a desire and need within us to make a difference and impact in our world. Our self-indulgent culture doesn’t often offer or cultivate opportunities to do so, and it certainly rarely combines the day to day routines, careers, jobs, delights, and drudgeries of life with actually making a positive difference in our community. •As we invite the larger middle/upper class community to participate in Braking Cycles, cycles of self-focus, aimless indulgence and complacency will also be broken in their lives. We will intentionally and strategically reach into the coffee, bike, and art cultures of Portland and build bridges to meaningful engagement and opportunities to serve. •Passion 2 Purpose – •The 40-year-old man who spends thousands of dollars and hundreds of hours a year on his passion in biking, now has a place to donate his used equipment • The Portland hipster who hangs out at the local coffee shop for homework now has a new venue •The green-thinking environmental-sensitive art student now has a place to intern with marginalized youth as they create from recycled bike parts and sell them at the local farmers markets |
